Michael joined the Critical Minerals Office (CMO) in 2021, which is part of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. The CMO is the Australian Government's central coordination point to grow Australia’s critical minerals sector.
His team works across a number of supply chains and technologies, with a particular focus on platinum group metals, high purity alumina and semiconductor minerals. Michael’s team also leads the CMO’s work on R&D, and engagement with the EU and its member states.
Michael has worked in a number of portfolios across the Australian government, including offshore oil & gas, water policy and regional infrastructure.
Michael also has deep experience in mineral exploration, mine geology and upstream oil & gas exploration, as well as research in uranium exploration and mine site rehabilitation.
